Chambers was established in 1971 in Southernhay West, Exeter, as an annex of 4 Pump Court, Temple. Following an amicable split from London in the 1980s, Neil Butterfield became the first Head of Chambers before being appointed to the High Court Bench. The Chambers moved to Walnut House in 1992, gaining a strong reputation for high-quality legal representation across various areas of law. A recent relocation to No. 40 Southernhay East places the Chambers back in Exeter’s legal quarter, just a minute’s walk from the Exeter Combined Court. Over the years, the Chambers has produced many distinguished members, including several QCs and judges, contributing significantly to the legal profession.
