Chambers was founded forty years ago to represent all sectors of the community, particularly disadvantaged groups, and remains firmly committed to ensuring access to justice through high-quality representation. It has since expanded to cover a wide range of practice areas while maintaining that founding principle. Chambers is dedicated to representing legally aided clients at a time when legal aid cuts continue to have a pernicious effect, and many members also undertake pro bono work both locally and internationally. It promotes an informal and friendly working environment with a diverse membership, and aims to be approachable and accessible to both professional and lay clients while maintaining the highest standards of preparation and representation. Established in 1977, chambers developed a strong reputation for civil liberties work. Following growth in membership and workload, it moved to larger premises in November 2006 and remained there until December 2014, when it relocated and rebranded as 1MCB Chambers.
