Jude Bunting KC, who has acted in 19 Supreme Court cases, was highly commended in the Barrister of the Year category

Jude Bunting KC of Doughty Street Chambers has been highly commended in the Barrister of the Year category at The Lawyer Awards 2026.

Chambers said he received special recognition for his “David vs Goliath” success in litigation concerning the government’s unprecedented super-injunction in Ministry of Defence v Global Media and Entertainment Limited.

His other prominent work included the ruling concerning false evidence given by MI5, the challenge to the Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Act 2023 in Dillon and the successful challenge to anti-protest regulations in R (Liberty) v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2025] EWCA Civ 571.

Doughty Street also highlighted his involvement in the dismissal of the terrorism prosecution against Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, known as Mo Chara of the rap group Kneecap, litigation concerning provisions of the Illegal Migration Act 2023 and a journalistic communications-data claim brought against MI5 and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

Bunting was selected from nominees across 28 categories following a record number of entries. The judging panel included representatives from the Bar, private practice and in-house legal teams.

He specialises in media law, judicial review and human rights and has acted in 19 cases before the Supreme Court. His wider practice includes national security, surveillance, police law, prisons, data protection and freedom of expression.

Bunting took silk in 2022. His previous accolades include Public Law Junior of the Year at the Legal 500 Bar Awards and Human Rights and Public Law Junior of the Year at the Chambers and Partners Bar Awards.
